The History of Cinco de Mayo
Cinco de Mayo, or the fifth of May, commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over the French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. The battle was significant because it represented a rare victory for the Mexican army against a larger and better-equipped French army.
